We’re kicking off the Remco Press Blog with a request for support for a worthy organization: the Colon Cancer Challenge Foundation. The CCCF’s mission is to support research into the causes and cures for colorectal cancer, increase public awareness and educate about the importance of early detection.

For the past four years, I have been a runner in the Colon Cancer Challenge, a New York Road Runners event held every spring in Central Park. I run with my friend Mike, on his team Day at the Bay, in memory of his mother Patricia. In 2010 Mike and I ran in the ING New York City Marathon for the CCCF, and our team raised over $65,000.00.

There are some mind-blowing figures attributed to colorectal cancer, the most stunning of which is that it is the second-leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the U.S. (the first being lung cancer). Over 150,000 new cases of colon cancer will be diagnosed in the United States this year. The good news is that with early screening, colon cancer is preventable, treatable and beatable.

The Colon Cancer Challenge is a day of athleticism, awareness, and education in Central Park. There is a 4-mile race, a 15k race, and 1.7 mile Remembrance Walk. I will be running in the 15k this year and I am hoping to earn donations from my family, friends, and colleagues.

Please download a PDF of information about colorectal cancer here. It’s a quick read!

To learn more about the Colon Cancer Challenge Foundation, please visit their website, coloncancerchallenge.org

To donate to my run, please visit my donation page: Donate

Thank you!
